Shannon received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from The University of Missouri-Kansas City, a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology and a Child and Adolescent Psychology Certificate from Avila University. She has fulfilled all requirements to become a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in the state of Kansas, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Wisconsin and a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in the state of Indiana. She received a Certificate of Play Therapy through Heartland Play Therapy Institute and is Level 2 trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), working towards certification. During her time at Avila, she provided individual counseling to college students and completed her internship at Child Abuse Prevention Association (CAPA), working with individuals, couples and families dealing with depression, anxiety and trauma. She also has a background working with children with autism, ADHD and behavioral issues in an outpatient, inpatient and in home setting.

A therapeutic relationship is key to lay the foundation for healing. Her work focuses on developing healthy coping skills and a positive sense of self to incorporate in daily living in order to enhance each individual’s well-being and overall family dynamics. She has a sincere appreciation that her clients allow her to travel this journey with them by using a variety of approaches that best fits her client’s needs.
